Webflow E-commcerce limitations

While I am a avid user of Webflow for brouchre and services websites I have ran into a few imitations when it comes to the E-commerce side of things. I have used the default e-commerce and also a 3rd party called Foxy.io. While this is mostly a review of WebFlow e-commerce I may mention Foxy.io where applicable.

Limitations

Lack of payment options.

You can only link to Stripe or Paypal. That's it, thats the two options you get out the box. If that's all you need then great! But if you plan to add something like Kalarna or FluxPayments you will need some 3rd party integration. You cannot also add Kalarna through stripe for the checkout system. This is very limited and I hope they expand in future updates.

Country only shipping

You can only limit the shipping to countries, so if you wanted to limit it to areas in your country using postcodes you will need some custom JS added to your checkout page to make sure the user is in the develivery area

Custom Fields

Although you can add plenty of custom fields for your product, when it comes to uploading a CSV with your products on it cannot contain custom fields. Meaning that you can upload the CSV but you will need to go through each product one by one to update the custom fields.

Using a 3rd party (foxy.io)

To get around the limitations of the above you can set up CMS items (products) and then connect it to a 3rd party such as foxy.io it takes a bit of setup and know how to get this working. It will likely move the user to its own checkout page (away from your website) which can be limited to how it looks. Takes payment and re-directs you back to the website once completed.

I had to overcome a problem with forms within WebFlow with foxy.io:

When you set up foxy it will say to put the product page (add to cart) section in a form. You need to put this as a custom element and not a straight up Webflow form. This is because when you have bot protection on it will take way to long to load the form. What's happening is: bot protection works on all webflow forms on the site and will load them slower than the page to add the bot protection but then you have the additional foxy.io script on top of that causing it's load time to roughly 5 seconds which is too long for a website.

What you end up paying for

Pure WebFlow e-commerce route: $29/mo if paid yearly + 2% transaction fee (500 products) (True on time of writing)

WebFlow + Foxy.io: $25/mo + $35/mo if paid yearly + 35c transaction fee (unlimited products) (True on time of writing)

Either route can be tricky and I would recommend to shop around for the right fit for you.
